JPG, PNG and WebP
JPG is the most compatible choice for forms and older software. PNG is lossless and keeps sharp edges, which suits screenshots and diagrams. WebP is usually smaller for web pages and can keep transparency.
The output is a new file. The original is not changed, and the conversion drops EXIF metadata such as GPS location.
Transparency and quality
PNG and WebP can keep transparent pixels. JPG cannot, so transparent areas become white. The quality slider applies to JPG and WebP only; PNG is lossless and ignores it.
Lower quality reduces the file size but can add softness around text and edges. Check the preview and the reported size before you submit the file.
What this tool cannot do
- It does not decode HEIC in browsers that cannot read it; convert to JPG first.
- It does not export AVIF.
- It does not resize, crop or rotate; use the photo resizer or the crop and rotate tool.
- It does not restore detail lost in an earlier compression.
- It does not upload the image anywhere.
How it works
- Step 1
Add an image
Choose a JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF image. HEIC is not supported by most browsers.
- Step 2
Choose the output
Pick JPG for compatibility, PNG for lossless output, or WebP for a smaller web file.
- Step 3
Adjust quality
JPG and WebP have a quality slider. PNG ignores it because PNG is lossless.
- Step 4
Check and download
Compare the size and preview, then download the converted file.
Frequently asked questions
Can I convert PNG to JPG?
Yes. Choose JPG as the output. Transparent areas become white because JPG has no transparency support.
Can I convert JPG to PNG or WebP?
Yes. Choose PNG for a lossless file or WebP for a smaller web image. The browser re-encodes the pixels; it cannot restore detail that was already lost.
Does the quality slider work for PNG?
No. PNG is lossless and ignores the quality slider. Use JPG or WebP when you need to trade quality for a smaller file.
Does converting remove EXIF data?
Yes. The image is re-encoded through the Canvas API, which drops EXIF metadata such as GPS location and camera details.
Is my image uploaded?
No. The image is decoded and encoded in your browser. The site loads analytics and ads, but your image is not sent to a server.
