Compress an image to 50KB
This page starts the image compressor at 50 KB. It is a common middle ground for profile photos and document uploads when 20 KB looks too soft but the portal still has a strict limit.

Why 50KB is a common form limit
A 50 KB limit often balances a recognisable photo with a small upload. It is more forgiving than 20 KB for faces, hair and simple backgrounds, while still keeping the transfer small for the portal.
That does not mean every form accepts 50 KB. Read the rule first: some portals require 20 KB, while others allow 100 KB or more.
Getting the best 50KB result
Use the best original you have, then crop tightly around the subject. The compressor can reduce quality without changing the pixels, but it cannot recover detail that was not in the source.
JPG is the compatible default. WebP can be smaller at the same visual quality when the portal accepts it. Keep the original aspect ratio unless a form asks for a specific frame.
- Use a photo, not a screenshot of a photo.
- Keep the face centred and leave a little headroom.
- Try 100 KB if 50 KB looks soft and the form allows it.
If the file stays over 50KB
Detailed textures, noise and a large pixel size keep the file large. The tool lowers resolution only after quality alone cannot meet the target, and it reports when even the smallest attempt is still over.
If the result is still over 50 KB, crop closer or resize the source before compressing. A PNG export ignores the target entirely, so choose JPG or WebP for a strict limit.
Balance quality and size
Check the face and any text at 100% rather than on a small thumbnail. A file that looks fine in a preview can still be too soft for an official form. Keep the comparison slider and the reported KB visible while you decide.
Other KB targets
How it works
- Step 1
Start from a good original
Use the original camera or phone file rather than a screenshot or an already-compressed copy.
- Step 2
Use the 50KB target
The target is preset. JPG is the compatible default; try WebP only if the form accepts it.
- Step 3
Compare at full size
Open the preview and inspect the face, text and edges. Increase the target only if the form allows it.
- Step 4
Download the file
Check the reported KB and the downloaded file before you attach it to the form.
Frequently asked questions
Is 50KB enough for a job application photo?
It depends on the portal. 50 KB leaves more detail than 20 KB and is often enough for a profile photo, but read the exact rule on the form. The tool cannot guarantee that an unknown portal will accept the result.
Should I choose JPG or WebP at 50KB?
Choose JPG when the form lists JPEG or JPG, or when you are unsure. WebP often produces a smaller file, but some older portals reject it. Use the format the form names.
Why is my PNG still large at a 50KB target?
PNG is lossless, so it ignores the KB target. Convert the export to JPG or WebP if the form allows it; those formats can lower quality to approach 50 KB.
Does the result land exactly on 50KB?
No. The tool aims to stay under the maximum, so the result can be a little smaller. Check the displayed size and choose a different target only if the portal allows it.
